CVE-2023-39350Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Client crash via underflowed RFX block offset

Published Aug 31, 2023 · Updated Nov 3, 2025

Integer underflow in FreeRDP clients before 2.11.0 and 3.0.0-beta1 through 3.0.0-beta2 allows remote attackers to crash the client via RFX data. In libfreerdp/codec/rfx.c, the RFX block parser subtracts a six-byte header and two-byte codec fields from an unchecked seven-byte blockLen, wrapping the substream length and seek offset. A malicious RDP server must deliver the crafted block to a FreeRDP-based client; the demonstrated result is an assertion-triggered abort, while the proxy is unaffected.
