Username enumeration via raw authentication exception messages
Published Aug 4, 2023 · Updated Oct 3, 2024
Username enumeration in Sulu 2.5.0 through 2.5.9 allows attackers to identify accounts through the Admin Login form. AuthenticationHandler returns the raw authentication exception message for failed AJAX logins, producing different content for existing and nonexistent usernames or email addresses. Exposure requires the newer Symfony Security system, which is standard with Symfony 6.0 and optional with Symfony 5.4, and discloses account existence only.
