Terminal spoofing via unsanitized CLI output
Published Aug 8, 2023 · Updated Oct 4, 2024
Terminal escape injection in Dangerzone before 0.4.2 allows local users to spoof CLI messages through crafted files or sandbox output. IsolationProvider.print_progress and filename logging wrote untrusted strings to the terminal without replacing ANSI control characters. Exploitation requires a user to process a crafted filename or a compromised conversion container to emit attacker-controlled output; the result is terminal-message or window-title spoofing.
