CVE-2023-39320

Code execution via relative toolchain resolution

Published Sep 8, 2023 · Updated Feb 13, 2025

Code injection in Google Cloud Go command 1.21.0 allows attackers to execute code when a local user runs go inside a malicious module. The cmd/go toolchain selector accepts a go.mod toolchain name that resolves to scripts or binaries relative to the module root instead of restricting execution to a valid toolchain executable. The attacker must control module content obtained through a module proxy or VCS, and execution occurs with the privileges of the user invoking go.
