CVE-2023-39316

Code execution via wrapped string_pointers allocation

Published Jan 8, 2024 · Updated Nov 4, 2025

Integer overflow in 32-bit GTKWave 3.3.115 allows attackers to execute arbitrary code by inducing a user to open a crafted LXT2 file. In lxt2_rd_process_block, num_dict_entries multiplication can wrap when sizing string_pointers, so indexed writes exceed the undersized heap allocation. Only 32-bit binaries are affected; successful exploitation runs code with the GTKWave process privileges.
