Application crash via unchecked path prefix removal
Published Aug 30, 2023 · Updated Oct 1, 2024
Denial of service in ZipArchive 2.5.4 allows attackers to crash an application when it extracts a crafted ZIP archive. The _sanitizedPath method prepends file:/// to each entry path, but /.. normalizes to the seven-character file:// string before code removes eight characters. Exploitation requires an application to extract the malicious archive, and the resulting out-of-range substring operation terminates that application.
