Process crash via unchecked SDL surface creation
Published Aug 2, 2023 · Updated Oct 17, 2024
Denial of service in ngiflib before 0.5 allows local users to crash SDLaffgif by opening a crafted animated GIF. SDL_LoadAnimatedGif fails to validate the SDL_CreateRGBSurface result before passing a null surface to SDL_LockSurface. A user must run SDLaffgif on the malicious file; the resulting null-pointer read terminates that process without reported data disclosure or modification.
