Unauthenticated account impersonation via passwordless AD requests
Published Sep 11, 2023 · Updated Sep 26, 2024
Improper authentication in StrangeBee TheHive 5.0.8 and 4.1.21 and Cortex 3.1.6 allows remote attackers to impersonate any account. The Active Directory authentication module accepts an API login for an existing username with an empty password after on-premises AD returns success. Exposure requires the on-premises Active Directory module to be enabled; Azure AD and deployments without that module are unaffected, while a successful request grants the victim account's privileges, including administrator access.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
