Arbitrary command execution via unchecked executable path
Published Jul 28, 2023 · Updated Oct 22, 2024
Code injection in wix-embedded-mysql 4.6.2 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands through a crafted executable path. Setup.apply trusts IExtractedFileSet.executable() and launches the returned file without verifying that the path names a MySQL executable. Reachability depends on an application passing attacker-controlled IExtractedFileSet data to the library; successful exploitation runs an arbitrary local executable.
