CVE-2023-39008Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Command execution via newline-injected cron parameters

Published Aug 9, 2023 · Updated Oct 10, 2024

Command injection in OPNsense Community before 23.7 and Business before 23.4.2 allows remote attackers to execute system commands. The cron job API accepts quote and newline characters in job parameters, and the user.cron template writes them into a crontab without removing the injected line. The demonstrated remote chain requires an administrator to open an injected link; direct API use requires cron-setting access, and the resulting job runs as nobody.
