Local privilege escalation via world-writable configd socket
Published Aug 9, 2023 · Updated Oct 10, 2024
Improper permissions in OPNsense Community Edition before 23.7 and Business Edition before 23.4.2 allow local users to execute privileged commands. The configd.socket Unix-domain socket permits access by every local account, while configd accepts submitted administrative actions without authorizing the caller. A low-privileged local shell is required; successful exploitation can create accounts and invoke other administrator-only functionality.
