CVE-2023-39004Public exploit

Configuration-secret disclosure via world-readable config file

Published Aug 9, 2023 · Updated Jul 9, 2026

Information disclosure in OPNsense Community Edition before 23.7 and Business Edition before 23.4.2 allows local users to read secrets. The /conf/config.xml file has mode 0644, granting unprivileged accounts read access to the root password hash and other configuration data. Cracking a recovered root hash enables privilege escalation; otherwise, exploitation remains a local disclosure of sensitive configuration.
