CVE-2023-38976Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Service crash via unchecked GraphQL variables assertion

Published Aug 21, 2023 · Updated Oct 7, 2024

Type conversion in Weaviate Server 1.20.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to crash the service via a crafted GraphQL batch request. The handleUnbatchedGraphQLRequest function directly asserts the JSON variables value as a map, so an array value triggers a Go runtime panic. The batch GraphQL endpoint must accept the request; anonymous access exposes it without credentials, while restricted deployments require authorized access.
