Decoder crash via out-of-bounds sample-table read
Published Aug 15, 2023 · Updated Nov 26, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in FAAD2 2.10.1 allows local users to crash the faad decoder by opening a crafted MP4 file. The stcoin function in frontend/mp4read.c reads a four-byte sample-table entry immediately beyond an eight-byte heap allocation created by stscin while parsing the malformed file. Opening the file is required; the demonstrated result is an AddressSanitizer-detected abort, with no grounded evidence of code execution or data modification.
