Token disclosure via plaintext IRC connection
Published Aug 4, 2023 · Updated Oct 9, 2024
Missing transport encryption in Xithrius twitch-tui before 2.4.1 allows man-in-the-middle attackers to read IRC traffic and tokens. The create_client_stream function selects port 6667 and sets use_tls to false, sending Twitch IRC chat and the configured token in plaintext. Man-in-the-middle attackers must observe the network path between the client and Twitch IRC servers; the documented impact is disclosure, not alteration or interruption.
