Process crash via invalid fragmented MP4 read
Published Aug 22, 2023 · Updated Oct 3, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in Bento4 1.6.0-639 mp4encrypt allows local users to crash the process by supplying a crafted MP4 file. AP4_Processor::ProcessFragments reads from invalid address 0x28 while processing fragmented media, causing an AddressSanitizer-documented segmentation fault. Exploitation requires the crafted file to be passed to mp4encrypt; the documented outcome is process termination without confidentiality or integrity impact.
