Local file disclosure via URL parser mismatch
Published Jul 22, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Path traversal in GNOME librsvg before 2.56.3 allows attackers to read local files through a crafted XInclude reference. UrlResolver validates the reference with Rust URL semantics, but GIO reparses the accepted string and treats query text as a filesystem path, allowing dot segments to escape the source directory. Exploitation requires an SVG loaded from a file URL; data and resource URL inputs are not affected, and remote exposure depends on a consumer accepting untrusted SVG files.
