Code execution via undersized len array allocation
Published Jan 8, 2024 · Updated Nov 4, 2025
Integer overflow in GTKWave 3.3.115 allows attackers to execute arbitrary code by opening a crafted VZT waveform file. In vzt_rd_init_smp, the numfacs-based size calculation wraps in 32-bit mode when allocating the len array, and the ensuing loop writes past the undersized heap buffer. Exploitation requires 32-bit execution and a user to open the malicious file; the overwrite can corrupt pointers and enable arbitrary writes.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
