CVE-2023-38537Network attack vector

App crash or control-flow deviation via call race

Published Oct 4, 2023 · Updated Sep 19, 2024

Race condition in Meta WhatsApp affected releases allows remote attackers to crash the app via incoming audio or video calls. Concurrent network-transport processing can free heap memory while call handling still references it, producing a use-after-free. The race requires an established or unsilenced incoming call and has a very low chance of causing termination or unexpected control flow.
