CVE-2023-38402

Boot denial via SYSTEM-level arbitrary file overwrite

Published Aug 15, 2023 · Updated Oct 3, 2024

Arbitrary file overwrite in HPE Aruba Networking VIA 4.5.0 and earlier allows local users to corrupt Windows boot files. The client performs a privileged file write as NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM to an attacker-selected path; HPE has not disclosed the responsible component or validation failure. Local low-privileged access is required, and overwriting boot-critical files can prevent the host from starting.
