CVE-2023-38354Network attack vector

Remote code execution via unvalidated installer certificate

Published Sep 19, 2023 · Updated Sep 25, 2024

Improper certificate validation in MiniTool ShadowMaker 4.1 allows remote attackers to execute code through a man-in-the-middle attack. The installation process accepts a server certificate without correctly validating it, allowing an intercepted connection to supply attacker-controlled installation content. Exploitation requires a network position that permits interception of the installation connection; substituted content executes with the installer's privileges.
