Account takeover via forged password-change request
Published Aug 9, 2023 · Updated Oct 10, 2024
Cross-site request forgery in LWsystems Benno MailArchiv before 2.10.2 allows remote attackers to change a logged-in user's password. The web application accepts a forged POST to admin.php?CA=changePassword and saves attacker-supplied password fields without a request-integrity token. Exploitation requires the targeted user to be authenticated and to visit an attacker-prepared page, after which the attacker can take over that user's account with the chosen password.
