Arbitrary file disclosure via path expansion
Published Jul 14, 2023 · Updated Oct 31, 2024
Path traversal in rswag-api before 2.10.1 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary JSON and YAML files through crafted URL paths. The call middleware passes PATH_INFO as the base argument to File.expand_path, allowing the resolved filename to escape the configured Swagger root before the extension-based response returns its contents. No authentication or user interaction is required; reachable Rails deployments can disclose JSON or YAML configuration and secrets, while this path does not expose other file types.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
