Captive portal outage via missing authentication parameters
Published Dec 25, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
NULL pointer dereference in Sierra Wireless ALEOS before 4.17.0.12 allows remote attackers to crash the OpenNDS captive portal. The /opennds_auth/ request handler dereferences missing custom query-string and client-token values instead of rejecting the incomplete request. No authentication or user interaction is required; a malformed GET request stops the daemon and interrupts captive-portal service.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
