CVE-2023-38316Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Unauthenticated command execution via unescaped URL callback

Published Nov 17, 2023 · Updated Sep 4, 2024

Command injection in OpenNDS Captive Portal before 10.1.2 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary OS commands through HTTP GET URLs. The custom unescape callback interpolates the requested URL into an unescape.sh command and executes it without validating or shell-escaping the URL. Exploitation requires the non-default unescape_callback_enabled option, and injected commands run with the OpenNDS daemon's privileges.
