Browser script execution via unsanitized group names
Published Jul 31, 2023 · Updated Oct 18, 2024
Stored XSS in Webmin 2.021 allows remote authenticated users to execute scripts in another user's browser via a malicious group name. The Users and Groups function stores the Group Name field without neutralizing script markup and later inserts it into a user-details page. Exploitation requires group-creation access and a different user to view the affected user details; the script then runs in that viewer's Webmin origin.
