IMEI disclosure via readable Android system property
Published Apr 22, 2024 · Updated Oct 31, 2024
Information disclosure in certain AT&T Calypso, Nokia C100, Nokia C200, and BLU View 3 builds allows local users to read the device IMEI. A high-privilege process writes the non-resettable identifier to the persist.sys.imei1 Android system property, which an unprivileged local app can read without permissions. Execution of a malicious app on a listed handset is required; exposure is limited to the IMEI, with no reported ability to alter data or interrupt the device.
