CVE-2023-38291

Wi-Fi MAC disclosure via readable system property

Published Apr 22, 2024 · Updated Nov 1, 2024

Information disclosure in affected TCL and Motorola Android firmware allows local users to read the Wi-Fi MAC address without permissions. A high-privilege process writes the non-resettable identifier to the globally readable ro.boot.wifimacaddr system property instead of keeping it behind Android identifier access controls. A malicious local app needs no special permission and can use the stable address to identify or track the device.
