Authenticated code execution via undisclosed deserialization
Published Aug 8, 2023 · Updated Aug 10, 2026
Deserialization of untrusted data in Microsoft Exchange Server allows remote authenticated users on the local network to execute code. Microsoft has not disclosed the deserializing component or object-processing operation that accepts attacker-controlled data. Exploitation requires valid Exchange credentials and local-network access and yields code execution through a PowerShell remoting session with SYSTEM privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
