CVE-2023-38022

Information disclosure via unchecked enclave pointer use

Published Dec 30, 2023 · Updated Sep 9, 2024

Information disclosure in Fortanix EnclaveOS CCM before 3.29 allows local users to infer protected Intel SGX enclave data. The runtime calls strlen on an untrusted pointer before validating its range, creating a side-channel oracle for null-byte positions, while undefined void-pointer arithmetic removes intended overflow checks in sgx_is_within_user. Exploitation requires local control of host-side enclave inputs and can reveal enclave-memory structure, including secret-dependent zero-byte positions, without modifying data.
