CVE-2023-38018Network attack vector

Account impersonation via persistent post-change sessions

Published Aug 9, 2024 · Updated Aug 9, 2024

Session fixation in IBM Aspera Shares through 1.10.0 PL2 allows remote authenticated users to impersonate another user after a password change. The session handler leaves an existing session identifier valid when the associated account password changes rather than invalidating that session. Exploitation requires authenticated access and possession of another user's still-valid session, granting only the permissions of that impersonated account.
