CVE-2023-38009

Information disclosure via missing certificate pinning

Published Jan 26, 2025 · Updated Jan 27, 2025

Improper certificate validation in IBM Cognos Analytics Mobile 1.1 allows physically proximate attackers to read client traffic. The mobile client relies on ordinary certificate validation without pinning the server identity to an expected certificate or key, allowing an intermediary with a trusted certificate to impersonate the endpoint. The attack requires proximity to the client's communications path and affects confidentiality, with no documented data modification or service interruption.
