Authenticated code execution via invitation subject preview
Published Aug 17, 2023 · Updated Oct 8, 2024
Code injection in XWiki Platform allows remote authenticated users with invitation access to execute arbitrary server-side scripts. The Invitation subject preview embeds user-controlled subjectLine content in a Velocity template with wiki rendering enabled, so Groovy or Python macros are parsed and run. Any account able to view Invitation.WebHome can reach the preview, gaining unrestricted read and write access to wiki content and code execution on the server.
