CVE-2023-37863Network attack vector

Root shell access via SNMP firmware-update command injection

Published Aug 9, 2023 · Updated Oct 10, 2024

OS command injection in Phoenix Contact WP 6xxx firmware before 4.0.10 allows remote authenticated users to gain a root shell via SNMPv2. The write_pxcFirmwareUpdateAction handler passes an attacker-controlled firmware filename to get_remote_fw.sh through popen, allowing Bash command substitution. Access requires the SNMPv2 write community and triggering the firmware-update action; successful exploitation grants full administrative control.
