Authenticated command execution via traversal file upload
Published Jul 17, 2023 · Updated Oct 30, 2024
Path traversal in the emqx_sn plugin in EMQX 4.3.8 allows remote authenticated users to write files outside the upload directory. The POST /api/v4/data/file/ handler accepts traversal sequences in the filename parameter and uses the resulting path for uploaded content without confining it. Dashboard access is required; replacing a plugin schema with executable Erlang code leads to command execution when the plugin is loaded through the interface or API.
