Unauthenticated code execution via path-traversing image upload
Published Jul 11, 2023 · Updated Nov 8, 2024
Unrestricted file upload in WebsiteGuide 0.2 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code through a crafted image upload. IconViewSet.post in websiteapp/views.py accepts a user-supplied filename in save_path without blocking traversal sequences or validating image content, allowing ../../views.py to overwrite application code. No prior privileges or user interaction are required; after the upload overwrites views.py, a request to /api/icon triggers the injected Python code.
