Authenticated runtime crash via CmpAppBP heap overwrite
Published Aug 3, 2023 · Updated Oct 9, 2024
Heap-based buffer overflow in CODESYS CmpAppBP before 3.5.19.20 or 4.10.0.0 allows remote authenticated users to crash the runtime. CmpAppBP processes attacker-controlled request data without enforcing the destination heap-buffer boundary, overwriting adjacent memory. A valid user login and network access to the CODESYS protocol are required; successful exploitation interrupts controller or simulation availability.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
