CVE-2023-37464Public exploitNetwork attack vector

JWE modification via truncated AES-GCM tags

Published Jul 14, 2023 · Updated Feb 13, 2025

Cryptographic authentication bypass in OpenIDC cjose before 0.6.2.2 allows remote attackers to modify AES-GCM-protected JWE data. The _cjose_jwe_decrypt_dat_aes_gcm function passes the supplied tag length to OpenSSL instead of requiring the 16-octet JOSE tag. Exploitation requires an application to decrypt attacker-controlled AES-GCM JWEs, allowing modified ciphertext to pass integrity verification.
