CVE-2023-37444

Code execution via late VCD variable definitions

Published Jan 8, 2024 · Updated Nov 4, 2025

Out-of-bounds access in GTKWave 3.3.115 allows attackers to execute arbitrary code after a victim opens a crafted VCD file. A disabled header-completion check in vcd_partial.c lets the interactive parser accept $var definitions after $enddefinitions, converting an out-of-bounds read into a write. Exploitation requires GTKWave interactive mode and grants the privileges of the GTKWave process.
