Code execution via post-header variable definition
Published Jan 8, 2024 · Updated Nov 4, 2025
Out-of-bounds read in GTKWave 3.3.115 allows context-dependent attackers to execute code through a crafted VCD file. The legacy vcd_parse path accepts $var after $enddefinitions, changes vcd_minid after allocating the indexed table, and lets bsearch_vcd read beyond that table. A victim must open the file with the -L legacy-parser option; forged heap data can then enable arbitrary writes and code execution.
