Unauthorized edits via skipped AbuseFilter hook
Published Jun 30, 2023 · Updated Nov 27, 2024
AbuseFilter bypass in Wikibase for MediaWiki 1.39.3 and earlier allows remote attackers to make undo or restore edits that evade filters. SubmitEntityAction::attemptSave sends reconstructed entity content to doUserEditContent without invoking the EditFilterMergedContent hook that AbuseFilter relies on. The target must expose an editable Wikibase entity with relevant filters configured; successful requests can reverse or restore content those filters were intended to block.
