Script execution via unsanitized image-map AREA href
Published Jun 30, 2023 · Updated Nov 27, 2024
Cross-site scripting in Joplin before 2.11.5 allows remote attackers to execute JavaScript through a crafted image-map AREA element. The HTML sanitizer in packages/renderer/htmlUtils.ts validates href attributes only on A tags, leaving javascript URLs in AREA elements unchanged. Execution requires a user to open an attacker-supplied note and activate its image-map area, after which the script runs in the application's rendering context.
