Engine crash via optimizer null-pointer read
Published Jul 18, 2023 · Updated Oct 28, 2024
Denial of service in ChakraCore branch master at cbb9b allows local users to crash the JavaScript engine with crafted JavaScript. A crafted Uint32Array replaces its slice method, creating a VirtualUint32Array type mismatch before the loop is lowered to Op_memset; BackwardPass::IsEmptyLoopAfterMemOp then reads address zero during JIT optimization. Successful exploitation requires the host to execute the script and terminates the affected engine process without reported data disclosure or modification.
