Privilege escalation via unchecked group option updates
Published Jul 18, 2023 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Missing authorization in ProfileGrid 5.5.2 and earlier allows remote authenticated users who own a group to change its options. The edit_group handler accepts group-option updates without checking a WordPress capability, including the associate_role value that controls members' assigned role. Group ownership and an authenticated account are required; changing associate_role can elevate affected members' WordPress privileges.
