CVE-2023-37010Public exploitNetwork attack vector

MME crash via failed error-response assertion

Published Jan 22, 2025 · Updated Jan 27, 2025

Reachable assertion in Open5GS MME 2.6.4 and earlier allows remote attackers to repeatedly crash the MME via malformed S1AP traffic. The s1ap_handle_enb_status_transfer function sends an error indication when MME_UE_S1AP_ID is absent, then asserts if that response fails. Reachability requires S1AP interface access and an eNB Status Transfer packet lacking the identifier; repeated packets interrupt MME service.
