Remote MME crash via missing S1AP identifier
Published Jan 22, 2025 · Updated Jan 28, 2025
Reachable assertion in Open5GS MME 2.6.4 and earlier allows remote attackers to crash the service via a malformed S1AP message. In src/mme/s1ap-handler.c, a missing MME_UE_S1AP_ID causes error-response generation to fail, after which an assertion aborts the process. Exploitation requires access to the S1AP interface; repeated E-RAB Setup Response messages can repeatedly interrupt the MME service.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
Public exploit references
