Privilege escalation via inherited IIS application pool
Published Aug 8, 2023 · Updated Aug 10, 2026
Improper input validation in ASP.NET on affected .NET Framework releases allows remote authenticated users to elevate privileges through IIS. ASP.NET does not correctly validate the application-pool relationship when an IIS application runs in its parent application's Application Pool. Low-privileged access and that shared-pool arrangement are required; exploitation breaks the intended privilege boundary or enables a security bypass.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
