PFE crash via malformed SSL traffic
Published Oct 12, 2023 · Updated Sep 18, 2024
Improper special-element handling in Junos OS allows remote attackers to crash the Packet Forwarding Engine via malformed SSL traffic. The jsf module mishandles malformed SSL elements during Encrypted Traffic Insights processing, terminating the PFE instead of rejecting the traffic. Exposure requires Juniper ATP Cloud with a security-metadata-streaming policy enabled on an SRX Series device, and recovery requires a manual restart.
