CVE-2023-36814Network attack vector

Unauthenticated service crash via unbounded marshal decoding

Published Jul 3, 2023 · Updated Nov 22, 2024

Resource exhaustion in Zope Foundation Products.CMFCore before 3.2 allows remote attackers to crash portal services via a crafted filter value. The public PortalFolder.decodeFolderFilter method base64-decodes attacker-controlled data and passes it to marshal.loads without a size limit; the patch uses JSON and rejects encoded values of 1,000 bytes or more. Every portal built on the package exposes the method without authentication, so a request can interrupt service without reading or changing stored content.
