Arbitrary file write via unsafe DumpDataReader deserialization
Published Sep 12, 2023 · Updated Oct 30, 2025
Deserialization in affected Microsoft Exchange Server 2016 and 2019 builds allows remote authenticated users to create arbitrary files via crafted data. The DumpDataReader class deserializes user-supplied data without adequate validation, permitting attacker-controlled file creation. Successful exploitation requires authenticated network access; chaining the file write with another flaw enables code execution as SYSTEM.
